Selected as Best Anthology for 2003 by Storytelling World Magazine, Tingle's first book has garnered numerous state and national awards. The International Reader's Association chose WTCR as a Notable Book for a Global Society for 2004, citing its "peaceful resolution of racial strife." Walking the Choctaw Road is available in both hard and soft cover.

An Audio Book (Four CD set) read by the author was selected by the American Library Association as a Notable Audio Title for Young Adults in 2004. This collection features Tingle in a five-hour studio performance, delivering the stories with the down-to-earth vocal style which characterizes his live concerts. The CD contains Choctaw hymns, vocable chants, and whale skin drum accompaniment.
